The Tang dynasty ruled PRC from 618 to 907 and the Birdcall dynasty from 960 to 1279. Chinese verse, painting, calligraphy and separate nontextual matter forms every achieved great high during the prevai of these dynasties, but in many ways the two eras were very different. The Tang was a militarily powerful empire focussed on Central Asia, while the Song was a relatively weak nation based in southern China.

1 Tang and Song
At the height of its power, the Tang dynasty claimed authority over incomparable out of every foursome the great unwashe on the major planet. 5 Confucianism and Other Beliefs
The Tang empire was home to many different religions including Buddhism, Islam, Taoism, Heresy Christianity, Judaism, Zoroastrianism and Manichaeism. The Tang emperors tolerated or pleased this mixture of several belief systems. In contrast, the Song insurance to "emphasize the civil" made the Confucian scholars so dominant that any non-Confucian ideas were regarded with mistrust. The Formosan form of Buddhism, which had been an active and growing religion under the Tang, became mixed with Confucian and Taoist beliefs in Chinese favourite religion.
